- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said the federal government was aware of the suffering in the country
- He also emphasised President Muhammadu Buhari's resolve to fulfill the promises he made during campaign in 2015
The
minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has formally joined the
All Progressives Congress (APC) claiming that Nigeria’s current troubles
were initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Accompanied
by friends, supporters and well-wishers to a ward in Enugu where he
registered, accused the PDP of destroying the country with impunity in
16 years before the emergence of the APC in power.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports
that Onyeama noted that the federal government was aware of the hardship
in the country and working assiduously to remedy the situation.
According
to the minister, President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to his promise
of change especially as his administration has initiated new ways of
making the masses benefit from government.
Onyeama said: “What we are facing today is a backlash of the wrongdoings of the PDP.
“They
held sway for 16 years and looted the treasury dry and it will not be
too easy to clean up the rot they foisted on the nation.
“President Buhari is working for you. He is working for us and very soon we shall get there.”
While
urging Nigerians to support the APC, he claimed that the current
administration was made up of technocrats committed to rebuilding the
nation.
In his address, the chairman of the
party in the state, Ben Nwoye, agreed that the APC revolution had spread
to Enugu state with residents embracing the party.
Currently, he said, the party has about
50,000 new members in the Enugu East senatorial district alone while
another 900 members were recently registered across the state.
“We
now have former legislators at both the state and the National Assembly
and other influential faithful who defected from the PDP to our great
party,” Mr. Nwoye said.
